Interview Preparation: Confidence & Body Language

Preparing for an interview can be nerve-racking. In addition to preparing for interview questions and understanding technical jargon, we're here to share some simple exercises you can do to help with confidence.

Focus on Body Language
Smile :) When we smile, our body releases endorphins that elevate our mood, makes us approachable and confident.

Practice Power Posing
Many studies have shown that power posing for 2 mins a day can increase testosterone (linked to confidence) while also lowering cortisol levels (linked to anxiety & stress management)

High Power Pose
Open and relaxed.

Create a Pump Up Song Playlist
Many athletes get pumped up before going into a game with music. The same can be applied before going to a job interview. Find some songs that boosts your confidence and crank it up!

Meditation
Focus on a time when you felt confident or happy. Remember your surroundings, noises, smells and how you felt. Put yourself back into that positive feeling.

Positive Thinking & Affirmations
Positive thinking and affirmations are a way to replace negative self-talk and destructive thoughts. Repetition helps retrain our thoughts and helps boost confidence, reduce stress, boost problem solving skills, and improves productivity.

Some examples:

  • I am confident and calm.
  • I have a powerful unwavering belief in myself.
  • I trust that all things are coming together for me in the way that they are supposed to.
  • There are no limits to what I can achieve.
  • Amazing opportunities are coming my way.

Confidence and feeling good about yourself is key in interviews. Take a few minutes a day to practice a few of the exercises we discussed and see what a difference it can make in your professional and personal life!
